Laboratory of failure analysis
The laboratory consists of 12 academic staff, including 1 academician, 5 professors and 5 associate professors. The laboratory has been awarded 1 National Science and Technology Prize (second place), 17 province-level and ministry-level awards, 2 appraisal achievements. There are 7 patents being approved and more than 400 scientific papers being published in national and international journals. There are also 20 specialized books and textbooks being published. In recent years, they have undertaken 6 projects from the National Basic Research Program (973 Program), 3 projects from the National High Technology Research and Development Program (863 Program) , 3 projects from the National Key Science and Technology Planning Projects and more than 20 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (General Program and Key Program). The laboratory also conducted more than 30 cooperation projects with Industry partners from iron and steel companies, Petro China, Sinopec Group, China National Offshore Oil Corporation and aerospace sectors.
The laboratory conducts in-depth research on principles, mechanisms, assessments and control of corrosion and environmental fracture. Research results have been applied in different industrial fields such as iron and steel, oil and gas sector, electric power, transportation, foundation construction and so on. Main research activities that the laboratory has been carrying out are the development of high corrosion resistance wire steel and tube steel, assessment and control of hydrogen blisters, corrosion rate prediction for oil and gas tub in CO2 and H2S environment, assessment of hydrogen induced fracture and stress, assessment and life time prediction of steel structure in sea environment, inspection and safety assessment of metropolitan underground tube system, cathodic protection software for urban area based on GIS and computation data, laser and ultrasonic inspection of anti-corrosion coatings and reinforcement recovery for steel structures and more.
