On March 19th, Fusheg Pan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, director of the National Research Center for Magnesium Alloys of Chongqing University, president of the Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, vice president of the Chinese Materials Research Society, chairman of the Magnesium and Magnesium Alloys Technology Committee of International Organization for Standardization (ISO), chief editor of Journal of Magnesium & Alloys owned by Elsevier Press, academician of Russian Academy of Mining Science, academician of Asia Pacific Academy of Materials and honorary professor of the University of Queensland in Australia, was invited to give an academic lecture on “Some new developments in magnesium alloy materials and advanced processing technology". Faculty and students from the Institute of Advanced Materials and Technology, the School of Metallurgical Engineering and Ecological and the School of Materials Science and Engineering participated in the presentation.

Academician Fusheng Pan is mainly engaged in the research and application of magnesium alloys, aluminum alloys and tool steels. This report mainly introduced some new achievements and progresses in the research of magnesium alloy materials and processes in China, and discussed some problems existing in the application of magnesium alloys and the standard formulation. This report focused on introducing the new development of high plastic magnesium alloy and high formability processing technology, analyzing and prospecting the development and application of magnesium alloys. Besides, students were encouraged to be active in the research of new materials so as to contribute to the materials research and development in China.

After the report, Academician Pan conducted a cordial exchange with the students. The participants showed great interest in the research and manufacturing process of magnesium alloys, and consulted with Academician Pan about their confusion in the research of magnesium alloy and other scientific process. Academician Pan made careful and detailed answers to everyone's questions, and the atmosphere was very lively.

Lastly, Prof. Lifeng Zhang of our school awarded the honorary certificate of materials master lecture series at home and abroad to Academician Fusheng Pan.

Academician Fusheng Pan has published more than 500 SCI papers, authorized more than 150 national invention patents and won several national, provincial science and technology awards. He has served as the chairman of the first and second China-UK Advanced Materials Symposiums, the third China-Europe Advanced Materials Symposium, and the third, fourth, fifth and sixth International Magnesium Alloys Conferences. Besides, he has also acted as the co-chairman of the 2017 European IUMRS Conference and the 2019 IUMRS Advanced Materials Conference.
