Chaofang Dong is the Chair Professor of Corrosion & Protection Center and also serves as vice Dean of Institute for Advanced Materials & Technology at University of Science & Technology Beijing (USTB). Her research aims to develop high-corrosion resistance materials based on integrated simulation with the scale from electronic/atomic level to finite element level. Such processes will be critical in the application of Materials Genome Engineering on metal industries. Her research activity is focused on the interface reaction study during metal corrosion in aggressive environment, including modeling and calculation of the corrosion process, atmospheric corrosion, hydrogen-induced cracking of pipeline steels or ultrahigh-strength steel (UHSS) and stress corrosion cracking of UHSS under complex corrosion conditions. Prof. Dong has established well-adopted adsorption-oxidation models of metal/passive film/environment multi-interface, specifically clarifying the influence of grain boundary and point defect diffusion on the kinetics of corrosion process. She has published more than 200 SCI papers and 3 academic books, obtained over 20 patents of invention and won the national science and technology progress award. Her publications have been cited over 2,200 times according to WOS with 27 h-index.
