  报告摘要/Abstract

Diamond-like carbon coatings are widely used for improving the tribolo- gical performance of engineering components. The performance is related to the composition of the film, i.e. the proportion of sp2/sp3 bonded carbon and other alloying elements such as H, W or Si.  The talk will show the mechanical performance of range of DLC films and discuss how this relates to their composition.  The effect of film roughness on wear of the counterface will also be discussed.  Mechanical properties have been measured by a number of techniques including nano-indentation, scratch and wear testing and the composition of the sp2/sp3 was determined using Raman Spectroscopy.  The talk will include the important considerations of providing mechanical support from the substrate in order to optimize performance in automotive and other engineering applications.
